OWYHEE PICTURE JASPER DESIGNER CABOCHON (IDAHO/OREGON) – 22.16 CT.

This is classic Owyhee Picture Jasper. I cut the cabochon from stone I collected years ago. Some Owyhee material has desert scenes with blue skies but I’ve always liked this kind of pattern too. This cab weighs just over 22 carats and measures approx. 25.5 x 23 x 4.7 mm. It has a medium dome and a great polish front and back. The back is flat. Some historical trivia: Owyhee County, Idaho where this jasper is found takes its name from a party of Hawaiians who got separated from their exploring party in the early days and were temporarily lost. Given the human tendency to mispronounce words, “Hawaii” has morphed into “Owyhee.” (All uses, N)
