RUTILATED QUARTZ DESIGNER CABOCHON (BRAZIL) – 48.65 ct.

This stone is truly a designer’s special. Golden rutile threads and bundles in a near-clean body are highlighted, but the stone has a funky shape that will require some custom metal work. The back is curved because I cut away inclusions that would have spoiled the overall visual effect. A bundle of lovely rutile crystals appears like a shaft of sunlight and the stone’s clarity and depth act as a magnifying glass to dramatize it. Random Angel’s Hair rutile threads criss-cross the stone. My aim was to cut a cabochon that would serve as a striking focal point for a pendant, with interesting visual effects from all angles. Measurements at the widest points are approx. 28.39 x 21.66 x 11.88 mm. Clean, showy material like this is very hard to find these days. (All uses, N)
