PRECIOUS OPAL DOUBLET (Brazil) – 11.5 x 11.5 Triangle

This opal doublet is made with a layer of high-grade crystal opal from Brazil thick enough to cut into a dome. It has the appearance of a fine and expensive black opal. The color play is intense blue-green with highlights of gold and red. A solid stone of this quality would be very expensive.  Doublets are assembled stones, made by cementing precious opal too thin to cut into strong cabochons to an opaque black backing. The natural stone backing material adds strength and intensifies the opal’s play of color. Doublets offer top opal beauty at an affordable price. They are sold by the piece, not by weight, but stones with thick opal layers like this one are more valuable than those with very thin opal layers.  (Assembled stone, some care)
