Iolite is sometimes known as “water sapphire” although it is an entirely different mineral. It is so named because of its blue to purplish-blue hue that resembles some sapphires. It is often used as a tanzanite substitute. This 7 mm. trillion weighs .82 ct. and is very well cut. There is no window. The stone is bright and displays a purplish-blue hue with some gray.
