RHODOCHROSITE (“INCA ROSE”) DESIGNER CABOCHON (ARGENTINA) – 94 + ct.# DCab 165
I cut this stone from classic Argentine rhodochrosite purchased a long time ago. It’s sometimes called “Inca Rose,” honoring its origin in ancient abandoned Inca silver mines where it forms in masses and stalactites. Export of rough stone is now said to be controlled by the Argentine government and large high quality material like this is very scarce. Note that this stone was cut with the top parallel to the layered banding so it displays delicate flower-like patterns instead of the usual contrasting bands of cream and pink. I have only a small stock of stones like this left and will have no more. Weight approx. 94+ carats (it’s very dense material). Measurements approx. 39.5 x 29.5 x 7 mm. (Some care, N)
