Massive green grossular garnet from South Africa is often misnamed “Transvaal Jade.” This cabochon shows why: even the dark markings resemble nephrite jade. Its hardness is approx. 7 to 7.5 Mohs’ and it makes attractive jewelry. This low-domed cabochon has a high polish with a semi-polished back. It weighs about 11.79 ct. and measures approx. 27 x 14.5 x 3 mm. Nice quality in scarce material. (All uses, N)
